Background & History

This single door boxcar is from the 10600 thru 10799 series built by the Reading Car Shops starting in October 1948 (later rebuilt starting in March of 1971). These cars featured 8’ doors and an inside height of 10’ 6” with a Murphy riveted steel roof. As class XMy, they are very similar in most respects to class XMw, except that it was built without the Duryea Cushion Underframe. This paint scheme with the dark green paint and yellow lettering, featured the hollow Reading Lines diamond, is considered one of the more attractive paint schemes on the Reading.

Plans are to duplicate this paint scheme when the car is restored. The man door next to the rolling door will be removed.
