Background & History

Class XMf was created in the late 1960’s when the Reading upgraded the underframes, brake equipment, and running gear on older Class XMb boxcars. This created the number series 118000 thru 118249. The Dark Green new paint scheme in 1974 with the Reading “Banner” made for a new and attractive appearance for boxcars. This is one case where 40’ Boxcars were refurbished, but not stretched as so many others were.

Boxcar 118141 went on to serve in Conrail as number 56913.

Plans for restoration are to maintain the Dark Green “Banner” paint scheme.
