Background & History
Rider Car 90865 began life in the passenger department as would be expected. Originally designed as a Combine, it served several roles before ending up on the Relief Train. Its role on the relief train was to provide a place for personnel to get to the wreck site as well as providing shelter and relief to the people that were working. It provided meals, quarters, and restroom relief as necessary to support the relief train efforts.

Our “Rider Car comes to us from Conrail and served along side its sister “tool car” 90865 stationed at Reading, PA. It didn’t take long for our MP&RE crew to perform a restoration on the Rider Car. The car was received in 1993 and was externally restored by 1995.
